Is there any benefit ?

When thermostatic radiator valves are utilised in houses then the space heating temperature control over a living or dining area or hallway having a heating requirement of at least 10% of the minimum boiler heat output should be achieved using a room thermostat. Whereas other rooms are individually controlled by thermostatic radiator valves. However, if the system assigns thermostatic radiator valves on all radiators, or two port valves, then a bifurcated circuit must be fitted with an automatic bypass valve in order to ensure a flow of water in all valves are in closed position.

How to check if the central heating system is in a good condition?

Gas valve into a Sealed Combustion

Sudden problems in your central heating system can make you worried. However, it is a very normal thing and is usually a glitch in the system. The user does not need to panic about it instead they try certain troubleshooting methods to check the condition of their heating systems. Here are the few tips that will ensure that your system is in a good condition:

  1. 1. Adjust the timer

If the central heating system is not working well then first check the thermostat. It might be that the thermostat is set on a low level. The boiler will only work if the heating has been set higher than room temperature. This gives the boiler an easy window to work with being much pressurized by temperature modulation.

  1. 2. Check the thermostat

Most timers usually have four adjustable temperature levels ; Off, On, Continuously and All Day. So when you are adjusting the temperature level make sure there is no change in the time. Also, check that the heating takes place for the time that you have set for it. So if your boiler is not working then it might be that you have set it on some other mode. So double check the timer if you have adjusted.

  1. 3. Check the pilot

Sometimes the pilot light can also become the problem behind the central heating system's glitch. Check that the pilot light has not gone out. If it has gone out, there are usually instructions on how to relight it on the front of the boiler or inside the boiler door. Even if the problem is not solved then it is recommended to call Gas Safe Registered Engineers.

  1. 4. Check the upstairs radiators

If the radiators in the upstairs are cold then it means that the feed and expansion cistern is empty. The cistern is usually the small tank. At times, it becomes dry and it will need to be refilled. To refill the cistern, at first you need to simply tap the ball valve. On doing this, the water should start to fill the cistern and stop when there is just enough water to float the ball valve. One should not completely fill up the cistern because there should be enough room for the water to expand.

  1. 5. Check the radiators downstairs

Cold radiators downstairs can also cause the glitch in the heating system. Therefore, it is important to keep a check on them as well. In order to do this, turn off the upstairs radiators. Chances are that the problem is due to the occurrence of an airlock in the system. If this technique fails and your heater is still not heating then it is possible that the pump of the heater has broken. In this case you have to call a professional plumber to get the problem fixed as soon as possible. This is extremely important because cold radiators lead to damaged or frozen pipes during winters.
