Do not switch anything electrical on or off. Open the doors and windows. Turn the gas off at the meter if you can reach it safely. Get everyone out.
Turn the water off at the stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink or where the mains enters. Open the cold taps to drain the system down. If water is anywhere near electrics, turn the power off at the consumer unit.
Turn the boiler off and turn the water supply to it off if you can identify the valve. Put something under the leak. Ring us.
It is not usually a middle-of-the-night emergency, but it becomes one if there is a baby, an elderly resident or anyone unwell in the house. Tell us if that is the case and we will prioritise accordingly.
