No heating, no hot water, or a boiler showing a fault code. Ring 07866 623870 and we will tell you when we can be there.
We diagnose properly rather than guessing, we carry the parts that fail most often, and most repairs are completed on the first visit.
Before you pay anyone to come out, two faults are worth checking yourself, because they are the most common and both are free to fix.
Look at the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler. If it reads below about 1 bar, the system needs topping up. Find the filling loop underneath the boiler — usually a braided silver hose with a valve at each end — open both valves slowly until the gauge reads between 1 and 1.5 bar, then close them both fully. If the pressure drops again within days there is a leak or a failed expansion vessel, and that does need an engineer.
Check the fused spur next to the boiler, the consumer unit, the timer or programmer settings, and the thermostat batteries. Check the gas is on at other appliances. On a prepayment meter, check the credit.
If neither of those is the problem, ring us.
Modern boilers shut down and display a code when a safety device trips. Resetting will sometimes clear it, but a boiler that locks out repeatedly is telling you something is genuinely wrong. Note the code before you ring — it narrows the diagnosis considerably.
Usually a diverter valve, which is the component that switches the boiler between heating and hot water. It is a common failure and a routine repair.
Either a leak somewhere in the system or a failed expansion vessel. We pressure-test and locate rather than just topping it up and leaving.
Sludge. The system needs cleaning — see power flushing. Cold at the top and warm at the bottom is trapped air, which is a bleed job.
Could be a corroded heat exchanger, a failed seal, a pressure relief valve discharging, or a pipe joint. Turn the water off at the stopcock and ring us — leaks get worse.
Kettling is usually limescale or sludge on the heat exchanger. Banging on start-up often points to the same. Gurgling is normally air in the system.
Overheating due to poor circulation (pump, sludge or a stuck valve), a blocked condensate pipe, or a faulty thermistor.
Common in cold snaps, particularly where the pipe runs outside — which is most older properties round here. The boiler shuts down and often shows a specific fault code. It is a straightforward fix, and we can lag or reroute the pipe so it does not happen again.
You ring and describe the symptoms. Have the make, model and any fault code to hand. A WhatsApp photo of the boiler and the display helps us bring the right part.
We give you an arrival window and an honest indication of likely cost from the symptoms.
We diagnose on site and tell you what is wrong, what it costs to fix, and whether fixing it is the sensible option.
You decide. No work happens until you have agreed the price.
We repair, test and leave the system working, with the paperwork.
Honest Cost Comparisons
We advise on what makes financial sense.
If the boiler is old, the failed part is expensive, and there are other components close to failure, we will say so and give you a comparison against the cost of a replacement. It is your money and your decision, but you should be making it with the full picture.
Ring 07866 623870 or send us a WhatsApp with a photo of your boiler display. We will diagnose properly and tell you when we can arrive.
